Studied electronic engineering at the University of Ulm with a specialization in communication technology. His dissertation was in the field of IPv6 multicast routing protocols for ad hoc networks. He completed his doctorate in the field of low-power MAC layer protocols for wireless sensor networks at the University of Dortmund in cooperation with Infineon Technologies. A paper based on his dissertation was published in IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.

He joined Manitz Finsterwald Patentanwälte PartmbB in 2005 and qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2009 and as a Chinese Patent Attorney in 2010. Registered representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) since 2023.
