Studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Munich with a specialization in data processing. He completed his dissertation in the field of rapid fault simulation in highly integrated circuits. His doctorate in the area of computer aided design methods was obtained at the Technical University in Munich.

He joined Manitz Finsterwald Patentanwälte PartmbB in 1991 and qualified as a German Patent Attorney and as a European Patent Attorney in 1995.
