Graduated from the University of Bath with a Masters in Physics. During his research placement at the Max-Planck Institut für Physik in Munich, Thomas was involved in the development and installation of a gas drift velocity monitor for the STAR experiment at Brookhaven's National Laboratory USA. Following this Thomas completed his doctorate in the field of experimental nuclear physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität Munich. During his PhD Thomas took part in experiments conducted at the Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) in Cologne and at CERN Geneva.

Thomas joined Manitz Finsterwald Patentanwälte PartmbB in 2008 and is a qualified UK and European Patent, Trade Mark and Design Attorney.
